A Love Letter to Roo: 19 Months Old

My sweet girl,

How is it that you are 19 months old? Time is really flying by and it shows with how much you are developing and growing each month. You are still my tiny girl but you’ve made so many changes in the last few weeks that it’s surprising and not surprising at the same time.

Everyone was worried about you not walking and your low muscle tone but you’re proving everyone wrong. Three nights ago, you decided that you wanted to stand up. You were playing with your Grand in the upstairs hallway and he said you started to bear crawl and up you popped to a stand for about 5 seconds before sitting down. He said your face was pure surprise and delight! You haven’t repeated it yet but you know you can do it. Like all other major milestones, you do it once and then wait for a bit before doing it again. I’m so proud and I’m glad your Grand saw it. I attribute much of this progress to the learning tower that your grandparents got your for Christmas. It has encouraged you to stand in a safe and supportive environment. You love it and ask to stand there instead of sit in your high chair to eat.

You also are making progress with your speech. You’ve started to “Woof” and “Baa.” It’s so cute. You are babbling a lot. When I say a lot, I mean from the second you wake up to when you go down for your nap and so forth. It’s fun to hear you chatting away in your crib.

We saw our occupational therapist for the last time before she moved onto her new job. I was so sad. You let her give you a kiss goodbye, which is not something you allow “strangers” to do but it was a sweet goodbye from you. The following week, our new therapist came to our house and surprisingly you really took to her. I’m glad the transition is going well. We start going to her office this week, which I’m nervous about but knowing you, it will be fun to play and explore!

I’m so proud of you, my girl! Keep up the good work.

I love you always and forever,

Mama
